Description

Appelscha, Drents-Friese Woud, Diever (Friesland-Drenthe) (NL)
for hand bikers

Base distance 33.5 km. Also: 21 km and 47.5 km. See'shortening\\' 1 and 2, and'expansion\\\'.

Possible starting points
1) Terwisscha 6a, Appelscha (coordinates 52.952749, 6.310337). This is the Buitencentrum (visitor center) Drents Friese Wold.
Appelscha is located 20 km southwest of Assen and 40 km northeast of Meppel. The Buitencentrum is located outside Appelscha, near junction 83 and close to (west of) the N-381. It has a restaurant, disabled parking spaces and a disabled toilet. It's on the route.
You can get on the route by going west from the parking lot to the T-junction, then RT to the main road (following sign 83) and RT here. Then you go over the bridge of a road. Immediately behind this is Junction 83, where you turn RA.

2) Bosweg 2a, Diever (coordinates 52.857652, 6.320529). Diever is located 35 km southwest of Assen and 25 km northeast of Meppel.
This starting point is a dirt parking lot outside the center, on the north side of the village. On the other side of the road is a cycle path and a small building for tourist information. The route goes through here.
You get to the route by crossing the (quiet, narrow) road from the parking lot and taking the bike path LA. After 500 meters you are at button 69.

Characteristics
You mainly cycle on separate cycle paths, a large part of which without car traffic along it. The paths are made of concrete and asphalt. You also go through a piece of Appelscha and Diever. From 63-61-62-68 and a bit to 59 the path is a bit bumpy due to tree roots under the asphalt. The route mainly goes through forest. From 83 to 91 and a stretch from 91 to 63 the paths are undulating.

Remark
Due to an unpaved or bad road surface, the route does not always follow the nodes.

MANUAL

Routes especially for hand bikers
Since not all road situations are suitable for hand bikers, routes are required that have been specially compiled for them, including important route information. At the same time, this is the reason that it is sometimes necessary to deviate from the nodes.
In addition to the basic distance, most routes also have one or more short cuts.
The route information is next to the map under the heading'Description\\' (so not'Directions\\\'). Click'show more\\' and everything will appear.

Route indication
Only the basic distance is shown on the route map.
If you are using a GPS device, download the GPX file to your smartphone. Nevertheless, it is important to read the route indication along the way because of special road situations for hand cyclists.
If you do not use a GPS device, you can download the route to your smartphone via the'route.nl\\\' app. Enter the cycle route number in the'route.nl\\\' search box. Download the offline version. With this version you can switch off your (expensive) mobile data while on the road and still follow the route information. You can find this information on your smartphone at the bottom.
If you don't use a smartphone for your route information, you can only print the section'Route indication\\\' or the abbreviation or extension for the journey. If you want to edit the layout first, then copy what you want to print. You paste this into a Word document and edit it the way you want it for the road. Then comes printing. You can then attach the paper to your hand bike or scooter, for example with tape, adhesive gum, pegs, rubber bands, an ANWB Knooppunter, or a telephone holder.

Abbreviations in the route designation include: ri = direction; hw = main road; knp = node; di = this is.

Requirements that the routes meet
no long texts for route indications;
no bumpy or difficult road surface, unless extremely short;
no ramps or slopes that are too steep;
no difficult or dangerous crossing points, except once in the expansion;
description of suitable parking space(s) for the start;
indications of special situations;
usually a basic distance of 25 to 35 km, almost always with the possibility of extension or shortening.
