Wildenrath is located on the edge of the Maas-Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. The German-Dutch Border Park Maas-Swalm-Nette extends over almost 20,000 hectares of nature reserves and bird protection areas. The areas are extremely varied, from very moist, nutrient-rich in the Meuse valley, to extremely dry and sandy in the higher terraces. The name Wildenrath is best known for the British military airfield RAF Wildenrath, which used to be located here. The Meinweg is a unique terraced landscape with steep transitions. The terraces were created by the scouring of the Maas in the soil and drifts in the earth's crust. Forests, heaths, fens and stream valleys provide an extremely varied landscape. What is special is that this is the only area where the adder still occurs in Limburg. In 1879 the mill burned out and only the corn mill was replaced. In 1884 a new turbine was installed so that the mill could run better. The milling company was closed down in 1974 and the mill has not been in use since.
