Combine your fun bike ride with a nice trip to Germany, because this beautiful route starts in Emmerich am Rhein. The city in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is located on the right bank of the river, which is a total of 1,233 kilometers long and originates in the Swiss Alps. In Emmerich am Rhein you will find three beautiful churches in the center. Park your car at Profile Hesseling & Kluitmann"Der Fahrradspezialist\\\" and take the time to stroll through the city, while the bicycle specialist checks your steel steed. Once minor defects have been resolved and you have shown your bicycle discount pass at checkout (you will receive a 10 euro discount), you can start the cross-border bicycle tour. You cycle back to Dutch soil, where you can visit the Avitera winery. The first vines were planted in 2004, with the help of many volunteers. There is a vineyard, a winery, a bodega and a terrace, from which you have a beautiful view of the Montferland. Enjoy a glass of wine and the sun, surrounded by the grape plants, before heading to the Volharding mill. That flour mill is in Zeddam. The belt mill, built in 1891, grinds grain on a voluntary basis. There is a nice shop near the mill where you can buy things to make your home a little more cozy. There are also lots of goodies for sale and nice gifts for sale at the wood craft shop. You can also browse through the second-hand books for good reading material. Tours and events are regularly organized in the mill, so you can learn more about how the mill turns. Via museum farm De Gildekoat, where you can see a collection of archaeological objects related to farm life in the past, you cycle to the Grafelijke Torenmolen. This mill does not have the appearance of the mills you usually see in the Netherlands. The old tower mill was built before 1441 and it is probably the oldest windmill in the Netherlands. The building looks a bit bulky, with its thick walls and robust appearance. The mill, which is used by a volunteer miller to grind grain, still has very old floorboards that make the mill very special. Cycling through the Achterhoek landscape of Montferland, you will finally arrive at Wijngaard't Oerlegoed, which is also called Wijngoed Montferland. You can take a tour of the four hectares of vineyards. You will also visit the winery and the wine cellars. Of course a tasting should not be missed!
