De Groote Heide is a breathtaking nature reserve of about 247 hectares. During the Second World War, the Venlo-Herongen airbase was located in this area. After the war, almost all remains of the airbase were cleared away, except for the control tower, which has been designated a monument. In the area you will also find the remains of a landwehr that used to be there. The south of the Groote Heide borders on the Venloër Heide, which lies on the border of Germany.
