Description

Sint-Anthonius is a small village near Antwerp. The beautiful Sint-Antonius Chapel of Juxschot was built here in 1942 for the approximately one hundred residents at the time. From the moment the Antwerp-Turnhout road was paved in 1750, the village grew considerably. But it was only after the Second World War that the village grew into this beautiful village with a typical Belgian accent. It is not without reason that Schilde was found to be the most pleasant municipality in Flanders in 2008. It is also called the "pearl of the Voorkempen". In this city you can view a number of breathtaking buildings such as the St. Guibertus Church, Municipal Domain Schildehof, the Fort of's-Gravenwezel and the beautiful Castle of's-Gravenwezel. The route starts at Profile Vermeulen. This bicycle specialist would like to check your bicycle and, if necessary, repair it so that you can start with a smoothly running two-wheeler. With your bicycle discount pass you get a 10 euro discount on all maintenance and repairs to your bicycle. From here you head north to the Trappist Abbey. The Trappist Abbey is the Abbey of the Trappists of Westmalle, which was founded in 1794. Here, in silence and tranquility, the tastiest beer in the area is brewed: one of the eight delicious Trappist beers. The monks of Westmalle provide their own livelihood. That is why there is also a farm and a cheese factory within the walls of the abbey. The abbey is not accessible outside the guesthouse. Once you arrive in the village center of Sint-Job-in-\\\'t-Goor you will see a beautiful saucer-shaped water tower that appeals to the imagination. The water tower was built in 1981 and the ground floor of the 35.5 meter high tower can be visited. A nice climb for those who want to enjoy the view. If you prefer to experience culture, it is better to cycle to the next stop. At Heemkring De Drie Rozen you will find a beautiful museum where you can still experience the atmosphere of the past. The museum is located in three former workers' houses in the village center of 's-Gravenwezel. The beautiful location certainly contributes to the authentic atmosphere and provides a good experience of what it used to be in the village. As the last stop on the route, you cycle past the beautiful castle of 's-Gravenwezel. This castle with double walls was built in the thirteenth century. The two imposing round corner towers were added in the fourteenth century, but only one of them has been preserved. The castle is located in the middle of a beautiful park of 21 hectares. The castle is privately owned and unfortunately cannot be visited from the inside.
