Vitamin-rich cycling through 'fruit country' near Mulde
The river Freiberger Mulde flows through the fruit growing area of Saxony. In this'Saxon Betuwe\\\' three new circular cycle routes have been opened under the name'Obstland Radroute\\\'. From the village of Börtewitz, south of Leipzig, you can join all three routes with an average length of 25 km. The cyclist comes through a lovely landscape full of orchards and villages.
The largest town is the riverside town of Leisnig. Along the routes, you can visit growers/producers and culinary addresses entice you to enjoy the freshly processed fruit. The Döllnitzbahn runs through the area; a steam train route that is still in operation (www.doellnitzbahn.de). The new fruit cycle routes are located at the Mulderadweg; a river cycle route along large castles, including Colditz Castle.
