Groote Heide and Meeuwven from Stratum

After a cup of coffee at Het Cruydenhuisch in Stratum, put on your walking shoes. From here you can walk straight to the vast Groote Heide. You can enjoy the views and the natural beauty here. The contours of fens that used to be there can still be seen on the cover sand ridge, smaller fens are still preserved. Then you discover the forests around the Meeuwven. Although the name suggests otherwise, it has nothing to do with seagulls. It used to be called Nieuwven, but was corrupted to Meeuwven due to a mistake by a mapmaker in Napoleonic times. Protected gale grows on the banks, which was previously used as a flavoring in beer.
