From Stadsrivier to Woudweg

Those who love cycling should not miss this beautiful rural cycling route along the east side of Leeuwarden. This route is a true journey of discovery thanks to all the beautiful things you pass by. From churches, country houses and monasteries to museums, bridges, rural vistas and of course village cafes, where you can step off for a pleasant break. The cycle route starts and ends in our Frisian capital Leeuwarden. This historic city is more than worth a visit. You will find numerous museums, monuments, nice shops and cozy terraces! From the center of Leeuwarden you cycle along the winding and picturesque river Potmarge out of the city to Lytse Geast. To get to the clog museum in Noardburgum you have to make a few more kilometers, but this museum is definitely worth it. In Burgum you can taste the atmosphere of the ancient history surrounding the monastery and the church. The landscape in this area is also special. The former peat landscape has been transformed into a meadow, which gives you a wide view. For a short break you can go to Cafe't Rood Hert in Burgum. The next village on the route is Suwald. Here you can enjoy a lovely terrace, while the ferry transfers the cyclists. You then drive through the vast landscape with farms, duck decoys and past the recreation area De Groene Ster, via the Vliet back into Leeuwarden. Finally, in Leeuwarden you will find the beautiful Princessehof Ceramics Museum, where you should not miss the latest exhibitions about ceramics!
