The Eastern Cycle Route is approximately 25 kilometers long. The emphasis of this cycle route is on the Oerd, a nature reserve 6 kilometers east of Buren, which is home to many rare plant and bird species (so it is wise to bring binoculars). But, of course, the mudflats are not lacking in this cycle route either. It is not for nothing that Ameland is often called Wadden diamond. You will be able to confirm at the end of this cycle route that this is not an empty advertising slogan. The Eastern Cycle Route is not signposted, but the route is easy to follow on the basis of the map. You start at the VVV in Nes (entrance). You cross the road (watch out!) and turn right towards Buren. Turn right at the first intersection with the Polderweg and turn into the clinker road that leads through the Nessumer polder. Southeast of Buren, at the intersection with the Reeweg, turn right towards the Waddendijk. Drive up the dike with the road. Turn left and follow the wide cycle path (with cattle grids), on the mudflat side, under the dike. Continue cycling to the end of the Waddendijk. Turn left, past the duck decoy and the Kooiplaats. Cycle along the Kooiweg in the direction of Buren. Turn right after about 1 kilometer, follow the cycle path behind camping Klein Vaarwater. Take the cycle path to the right, direction Oerd.
