Description

You walk straight through the village to the Hugterheide, where - contrary to what the name suggests - you will not find any heathland. To control the drifting sand, conifers were planted here a hundred years ago. You increasingly see deciduous forests emerging here, which have been planted to give the forest more variety. You will especially see pedunculate oaks and birches emerging here, which benefit birds such as the nuthatch, yellowhammer or black tit. The forest is located on a sand ridge that extends into the Weerter and Budeler mountains. You walk back past the fishing pond and nature reserve Het Greunvengat.
