Description
Around Poppel you drive through the Belgian-Dutch border area. You will find plenty of forest here, ideal for a quiet day of cycling.
Gorp & Roovert
You cycle a bit through the rural area of Poppel, after which you cross the border again and drive through the forests of Gorp and Roovert. You will pass a monument to commemorate the 5 people who were shot here by the Germans in 1942 as a reprisal for a sabotage action by the resistance. In the hamlet of Gorp you pass a number of beautiful monumental farms and a nineteenth-century hunting lodge. In Goirle you can see the Visscher, a flour mill from 1875.
Bels Lijntje
Then you cycle towards Riel. Here you see the Zandeind, the striking hull of a flour mill from 1837. Then you drive onto the Bels Lijntje. This cycle path runs over the former railway line between Tilburg and Turnhout. The cycle path is alternately bordered by forest and farmlands, it is wonderfully quiet here as you cycle for miles all the way to Alphen.
