Cycling through the Loonse and Drunense Duinen

Loonse and Drunense Dunes
The first part of the route you cycle through the Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park. This is a varied nature reserve of over 3,500 hectares. A great area to cycle through! The living shifting sands in the Loonse and Drunense Duinen are nowhere to be found on such a large scale in Europe, but it is also a wooded area with many coniferous trees. A nice contrast is formed by the moist streams and marshes south of the dunes.

Sightseeing en route
You then cycle to Zwijnsbergen Castle. Zwijnsbergen was founded around 1552 as a simple house surrounded by a moat. The cellars of Zwijnsbergen are the oldest part of the castle with their ribbed and barrel vaults. A little further on you will find the Liberation Monument Helvoirt, which was placed to commemorate the liberation of that place in 1945. You then cycle a large part through the Loonse and Drunense Duinen, before returning to Loon op Zand.
