The history of Halsteren goes back centuries and derived its right to exist from the fact that it was a peat extraction village. The oldest mention dates from 1272, when the town was still called Halstert, but names such as Haltre and Halstre have also been found in writing. A parish was founded in the thirteenth century and there must also have been a harbor. The town's first church was located between Halsteren and Tholen, but was swallowed up by the water during the All Saints Flood in 1570. One of the historic buildings that can still be seen in Halsteren is the old Town Hall in the center, which was built in 1633. .
The first attraction is still in Halsteren and is the Sancto Antonio mill. This mill is also known as the Sint-Antonius mill and was built in 1817. The belt mill was used for years to grind grain professionally. From 2004 to 2006 this was done with one rod, after the inner rod was broken off. The mill was thoroughly restored in 2012 and a new one was appointed after the death of the old miller. This usually runs the Sancto Antonio on Sunday afternoons. Via WV Schelde on the edge of Halsteren Halsteren you cross the water and make a circumferential line around Bergen op Zoom.
You will then pass the Lievensberg estate, which covers 127 hectares. This beautiful wooded area consists mainly of deciduous and coniferous forests and a 25 hectare heathland. Due to its favorable location, the estate is frequently visited by hikers. The area is landscaped in a park-like manner with picnic areas, a heath garden and a pond. More than thirty species of heather plants can be found in the heath garden. You will then arrive at the Wouwse Plantage. The Wouwse Plantage is a forest south of the village that is also called Wouwse Plantage. This beautiful forest area covers approximately 74 hectares of land and has been owned by the Forestry Commission since 1996. Near the forest is the Wouwse Plantage estate and on the edge is Golf Club Wouwse Plantage.

This mill in Halsteren is also known as the Sint-Antoniusmolen. It is a flour mill from 1817 that was built by order of some bakers from Bergen op Zoom. The white round mill is located just outside the village center of Halsteren, along the main road to Bergen op Zoom, and the name of the mill comes from the saint to which this mill is dedicated. The mill was owned by several families who made frequent use of the mill. The mill burned down in 1826, but was quickly restored afterwards. During the war the mill was damaged again and it was repaired between 1947 and 1948. The rods of the mill were then replaced. In 2002 the inner rod broke during grinding. The mill continued to grind with one rod for a while, but finally the mill was restored again in 2004. Today the mill is still running by a miller.
