Description

You first drive through Valkenhorst, which is known for the fish ponds that have been excavated since 1900. Those fish attracted many birds, the most notable of which is the egret. The original production forest is becoming increasingly varied. In Schaft you can see the St. Antonius Abt mill. During the Second World War, part of the mill was used as a field hospital. Next to the mill, a native garden has been created with traditional Kempen farm herbs and vegetables. The stone Borkel en Schaft Liberation Monument reminds us that this is where British liberators and the population of Valkenswaard came into contact with each other in 1944.
