Strijbeekse Heide, Chaamse Bossen and Baarle

Your route starts at the Strijbeekse Heide. Here you will discover the Zwarte Goor and Langven fens. Then you cycle straight through the Chaamse Bossen. This area once consisted of sand drifts, wet heathland and fens. Between 1900 and 1934, much of the heathland was planted with Scots pine and wet areas were converted into grassland. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, many old agricultural areas were restored to their former state, making the area wetter again. The original fens were also excavated again, creating new swamp areas. Further on you come close to the recreational area't Zand in Alphen, a beautiful beach with natural swimming water.
