's-Hertogenbosch, North Brabant, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 1291077
Provided by: Groots Genieten
First you walk along the southern bank of the mighty Maas. Then you cross the Maas with a ferry, for a beautiful round on both sides of this turbulent river. You are here in the Bommelerwaard, which is embraced by the winding Maas and Waal. An island, as it used to be called. The water was cursed when the land flooded again, but blessed when the harvests were rich. The route also takes you past Ammersoyen Castle, one of the best preserved moated castles in the Netherlands. During construction, the castle was located in or on the Maas, but in 1354 the course of the river changed. Since then, the main castle has almost always been surrounded by a moat.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
