Description

The centuries-old, picturesque Achel is surrounded by a sea of greenery. The village is best known for the Achelse Kluis; the St. Benedict's Abbey in Achel. Drink an Achelen Trappist beer in the inn-brasserie! More than half of Achel's territory used to consist of wasteland, through which streams flow and conifers grow in dry and moist parts. Fish ponds are wonderfully quiet places among the trees and at the edge of mysterious fens you can let your thoughts wander endlessly. The larger nature reserves are the Achelse Heide and the Beverwijkse Heide, through which the route passes. Don't be fooled by the name; Instead of vast heathlands, you can expect even more trees here. In beautiful old Maarheeze you can stop at Cafe-Terras Ons Lieske.
