Description

Just across the border from Belgium in the province of Limburg, lies the Kempen town of Lommel, which celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1990. Several beautiful nature reserves are part of Lommel, which hide the town between beautiful forests with deciduous and coniferous trees or vast heathland plains, where various protected animal species live and special plants bloom in full glory.

A selection of the various domains through which this cycle route passes are the huge forests of the Hoeverbergen, the private estate Hoeverheide and the Venakkerbos, where cultural-historical elements are still present in the landscape. As you get closer to the town, the activity increases; With a trade center and the large De Singel shopping center, Lommel is the third shopping city in Belgian Limburg. More than thirty chapels are spread throughout the city and give it an authentic appearance. You can enjoy a terrace around the market square; With a wide range of restaurants and cafes, there is always a place where you will enjoy yourself.

The old water tower of Lommel, which is connected to the water reservoirs of Kaulille and Hamont. The tower contains a reinforced concrete water tank and every day the tower absorbs consumption peaks in the morning and evening. The beautiful tower also puts constant pressure on the distribution network. Stop at L100: Joe\\\'s Bridge, because at this special place you can listen to the experiences and stories of people who fought to capture the bridge from the Germans. L100: Joe\\\'s Bridge is one of the listening points of the Liberation Route, which lets you experience what happened in 1944 and 1945 during the liberation of places that were oppressed by Germany.

There are field boulders at 75 locations in the area, where you can listen to a fragment about what can be seen there and about the impressive experiences of one or more people during the Second World War. The route follows the path of the Allies during the liberation of Europe. The route starts in Normandy and runs via the Netherlands towards Berlin.
