Krimpenerwaard, South Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 1279497

Walking through the Krimpenerwaard is wonderful. It is a Dutch polder country through and through. With long strips of land, pollard willows along the ditches and a springy soil. The Krimpenerwaard used to be a difficult to reach and therefore isolated area, but now it is a perfect walking area, whatever the season. Ditches are disappearing and in a number of places the topsoil has been excavated to create good conditions for moisture-loving plants and animals. You depart from Theetuin and B&B Onder De Pannen in Lekkerkerk. Here you can enjoy a lunch or a cup of coffee with homemade apple pie before or after your walk. Then you put on your walking shoes to walk to Krimpenerhout; a recreation area with surfing lake. Along the way you will see the different stages of the transformation of a tight peat meadow polder into a varied recreational landscape.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
