The string of Maas villages, wandering between waters and history

This cross-border cycling route takes you through the northern part of the RivierPark Maasvallei, past some beautiful old villages like old pearls on a chain. The starting point of this cycle tour is in Ophoven, at De Spaanjerd marina. From there you cycle along the new cycle paths to picturesque Kessenich. Here you will find"De Berg\\\" opposite the St. Martin's Church, on which you can admire the foundations of the twelfth century ruins of the motte tower. From the top you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Further on you cross the border to the white town of Thorn. In Wessem and Stevensweert you can still see the settlement history. In Maasbracht you can discover the history of inland navigation on the Maas in the Maas Inland Shipping Museum. The lock complex is also worth a stop. If the route is too long, you can shorten it via the"President Willy Claes\\\" bicycle ferry.
