Description

Drink a cup of coffee at meeting point Het Bruishuis and then put on your walking shoes. During the Cold War, a big secret was hidden in the peaceful Meinerswijk polder near Arnhem. There were numerous installations of the IJssellinie, a gigantic military project to stop a possible attack by the Russians. The most important remains in Meinerswijk are the striking passage bridge and some tank casemates. You walk east along the Rhine. The Stadsblok-Meinerswijk area is slowly being transformed into a continuous nature and recreation area: the largest floodplain park in Europe. You can cycle along the Rhine, swim in the new side channel and enjoy a dynamic river dune park. On your way back you will pass two more Philadelpia care locations: De Gevel and Meeting Place Eimersingel.
