Description

Your cycling route starts at the Gorinchem Nature Centre. From here, you'll cycle to the picturesque and very religious village of Hoornaar, where you'll see a hollow post mill, one of the two remaining mills in the Land of Six Mills polder. This is the Scheiwijkse M, dating from 1638. Along your route, you'll also enjoy a beautiful view of the Waal River, dotted with boats. In Gorinchem's city center, the 16th-century city walls have been well preserved. The Dalempoort gate dates from 1597. Fort Vuren was built in 1844 as a simple earthen fort. In the 19th century, it was extended with a tower accessible only by a drawbridge. The fortification was constructed to protect Gorinchem as part of the New Dutch Waterline. You'll cycle back to your starting point via the Philadelphia Outpatient Care Centre in Gorinchem.
