Zwammerdam Tour from Bodegraven

Your walk begins in Bodegraven, at Brouwerij de Molen. As soon as you leave the buildings behind, you'll find yourself on a lovely path straight through the meadows. You'll walk along the quaint, meandering river De Meije towards Zwammerdam. Just before the village, you'll see the Achtkante / Nieuwe Ziendemolen (body/remains). This mill was built by the land reclaiming company in 1809 not far from the original Ziendemolen, as the third mill to operate in the area: the Achtkante or Nieuwe Ziendemolen. When a pumping station was built on the site of the (Old) Ziendemolen in 1921, the Achtkantemolen was largely demolished. Only the stump of the Achtkantemolen remained, serving as a dwelling. The interior is almost entirely original. Pleasant paths through the wet polder lead you back.
