Zwammerdam Tour from Bodegraven

Your walk starts in Bodegraven, at Brouwerij de Molen. As soon as you leave the buildings behind you, you walk on a beautiful path straight through the meadows. You walk along the old-fashioned meandering river De Meije towards Zwammerdam. Just before the village you will see the Achtkante / Nieuwe Ziendemolen (hull/remains). This was built by the polder in 1809 not far from the original Ziendemolen, as the third mill to grind in the area: the Achtkante or Nieuwe Ziendemolen. When a pumping station was built on the site of the (Old) Ziendemolen in 1921, the Achtkante Molen was largely demolished. Only the stump of the Achtkante mill remained, as a home. The interior is almost completely authentic. Nice paths straight through the wet polder lead you back.
