Fort route Westeinder Plassen and Drecht

After a cup of coffee at Café Op de Hoek in Kudelstaart, put on your walking shoes. You first walk along 'de Poel', as the people of Aalsmeer call the Westeinderplassen. There was a lot of peat in the area, which led to peat extraction on a large scale from 1600 onwards. There is plenty of recreation and there are about 50 marinas along the banks. Yet the pike, eel and the rare European catfish swim here. Two of the two fort watchmen's houses and the mountain shed are still there, as is the moat. Further on you will discover Fort bij de Kwakel, after which you walk south via the winding Drecht. The Tolhuissluis from 1823 connects the Amstel-Drecht Canal with the Drecht and Aar Canal, here you bend again towards Kudelstaart.
