Description

This walking route starts at Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And most beautiful. Already around 1225 there was a motte on this spot. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest fortress between the Maas and the Rhine. Drink a cup of coffee nearby at Meeting place De Eettafel and then take a tour of the Philadelphia residential locations Schutterweide, De Dem and Villa Dolfijn. You walk back to your starting point via Passarts-Nieuwenhagen Castle, a rectangular mansion and a U-shaped farm. Its history goes back to the fourteenth century. The name comes from the first owner, Wilhelm van Nuwenhagen, and the person who owned the castle in the sixteenth century: Ulrich van Blitterswijk, called Passart.
