Tour of town and country from Hoensbroek Castle

This cycling route starts at Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And most beautiful. There was a motte on this site as early as around 1225. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest castle between the Maas and the Rhine. Well worth a visit, because this enormous castle museum is a true experience. You can wander through more than forty castle rooms. Drink a cup of coffee nearby at De Eettafel meeting place and then cycle along the Brunssummerheide to Heerlen. A nice tour along Simpelveld, Ubachsberg and Wijnrade brings you back to your starting point. In Simpelveld you pass the Miljoenenlijn station, nice to see!
