Walking route Leenderstrijp and Leenderbos

In the small village of Leenderstrijp you will see some beautiful old Kempen long-façade farms. Just outside the village you can see the Heimolen, a corn mill from 1754. The route then leads you through the Leenderbos. The former heath is mainly planted with Scots pines that were once intended for mining timber, but you can still see heathlands, outside the fens, drifting dunes and winding paths. You walk back along De Riesten - Onderduikplek. In this impenetrable area there were dredging pits where young men hid to escape the Arbeidseinsatz. The hiding place was betrayed at the end of the occupation, but fortunately the people in hiding were helping with the harvest at the time.
