Tour of Dijkwijf in the Gendtse Waard

This walking route starts at Camping Waalstrand. You walk through the Gendtse Waard, part of the Gendtse Polder. The part without a dike is the worth, here river water can flow freely in and out. Around the Vossegat, a silting sand extraction lake, a special area is created with undulating sand and gravel banks, overgrown with willows and black poplars. A landmark not to be missed during the route is the'Dijkwijf\\\', a statue of a woman on a mound. It can be seen from a great distance. A'Dijk van een Wijf\\\' is made of brick and is 3 meters high. Brick is a real river product. Stones from surrounding brick factories, waste stones and boulders from the immediate area were used for the masonry. These debris form the skirts of the'Dijkwijf\\\'.
