The best of both worlds is combined in this cycle route: the wooded southern area of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the inland area between the city of Veenendaal and the town of Renswoude. Between the trees of the Amerongse and Zuilensteinse forests you will find the pine marten, the red bat, but also many special ground beetles. Various plant species give this part of the sand ridge a varied appearance, while you can also enjoy the conviviality of the cities. There is a wealth of monuments in Veenendaal: from churches to longhouse farms, mills and beautiful villas. Veenendaal has been booming since the late 1990s: catering establishments are springing up like mushrooms on the Markt and give the center a vibrant atmosphere. The protected village view of Renswoude is also fun to view. Because laws and regulations prohibit changes to the historic buildings, the town still feels authentic. You can park your car for free in the parking lot of restaurant De Dennen. The route starts and ends at this restaurant, which is located on the edge of the woods. In 2009, De Dennen celebrated its 75th anniversary. There is no doubt that this is the ideal place to end your cycling tour. The family restaurant is now run by the third Van de Wetering generation and has developed from a cozy café into an excellent restaurant.
