Tour of Westerpark and Balijbos

In the Balijbos you see many beech, ash and alder trees. In part of this area, nature is allowed to take its own course. It is part of the Green-Blue Slinger, which connects the green areas in the region. Take a look at Stadsboerderij de Balijhoeve, a petting zoo intended to familiarize city children with the animals of the countryside. In addition to the petting zoo, there is also a play forest. Then you continue walking through the Westerpark, a recreational area that was built around 1980. Peat extraction started here in the 14th century, and reclamation began in 1668: mills drained the Driemanspolder. You will now find a mix of water features, forests and grasslands here.
