Description

Your route starts with a cup of coffee at De Pannekoekenbakker Baarle-Nassau. With this route you will discover the Bels Lijntje, the former railway line between Tilburg and Turnhout that now serves as a cycle path. Expectations about the Turnhout-Tilburg line were high, but when the Moerdijk Bridge was constructed in 1872, the Antwerp-Rotterdam railway connection turned out to be much more lucrative. On your bike you really notice that the border area between Tilburg and Turnhout is actually one vast, contiguous nature reserve: the Kempen. Outside of the few towns you will hardly find any buildings, only here and there a small farm hidden in the green. Get off in Turnhout to leisurely discover the Beguinage (UNESCO World Heritage) and the castle of the Dukes of Brabant. Grab a terrace on the Grote Markt right away!
