Baarle-Hertog, Flanders, Belgium
Cycling route: 1267213
Provided by: Groots Genieten
With this route you will discover the Bels Lijntje, the former railway line between Tilburg and Turnhout that now serves as a cycle path. Expectations about the Turnhout-Tilburg line were high, but when the Moerdijk Bridge was constructed in 1872, the Antwerp-Rotterdam railway connection turned out to be much more lucrative. On your bike you really notice that the border area between Tilburg and Turnhout is actually a vast, contiguous nature reserve: the Kempen. Outside of the few towns you will hardly find any buildings, only a small farm here and there hidden in the green. Get off in Turnhout to leisurely discover the Beguinage (UNESCO World Heritage) and the castle of the Dukes of Brabant
