The local symbol of Steensel is a pier."One day a stork flew over with a pier in its beak.'Shall I drop you here\\\' asked the stork.'No\\\' said the pier.'Just eat me because on this poor sandy soil here I will die a slow starvation death\\\'. The stork laughed so much that he dropped the pier in the priest's garden. The priest chained the unique find to the church tower. Steensel now had a pier!\\\"
