Water fun at the Bütgenbach reservoir

Places of interest in Butgenbach
Take a look at the center of Bütgenbach at the beginning or at the end of this route. Stroll through the market square and admire the various monuments here, such as the St. Stephen's Church in neo-Romanesque style. The church is interesting because of the old tombstones, the various pieces of furniture from an old chapel from the 15th century and a 13th century baptismal stone that can be found here. Hof Bütgenbach, an old castle farm dating back to the 15th century, has been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Behind the facade, now restored and recognized as a monument, you will now find, among other things, a gallery of the same name. This attraction is also worth a visit.

The dam on the Warche
You then cycle along the lake and along the river Warche. Downstream on the Warche you will find the dam that has shaped the lake. The dam was built in the 1930s by Italian engineer Boldo.

Ruins at the dam
The dam consists of a series of arched vaults. The reservoir powers a power plant and also regulates the level of Lake Robertville. Near the dam are the ruins of a castle from the years 1230-1240. These are the remains of the old Huis Kirch, which served as headquarters for the Allies during the offensive of the Ardennes in the winter of 1944-1945.
