Groesplaat and Oudendijkse Gat walking route

This walking route starts with a cup of coffee at Camping De La Rue Koffie & Zo in Sleeuwijk. Then you put on your walking shoes. You make a nice tour through and around Sleeuwijk to discover a special piece of new nature: Groesplaat. It was created by the construction of the Oudendijkse Geul, which is 1,500 meters long and tens of meters wide. The Merwede can discharge excess water here during high water. The special thing is that many seeds end up on the Groesplaat at high water, even species that normally only grow in South Limburg. This is also a paradise for bird watchers. Here you can still see them, the godwits, redshanks and cormorants. You can spot them all from the bird watching hut't Vinkennestje, overlooking the banks of the Oudendijkse Geul.
