Description

After a cup of coffee (with a piece of apple pie!) at Boscafé De Beken, you put on your hiking boots. From there you will discover the nice Renkum, a town that is more than a thousand years old. For centuries Renkum was a poor farming hamlet, but that changed in the nineteenth century. Some more expensive houses were built in the village, without detracting from the landscape. In the woods around Renkum are burial mounds that are thousands of years old and the floodplains of the Rhine offer a beautiful view over the water. You walk a bit through the Rhine valley along the northern bank of this river - one of the longest rivers in Europe, with 1233 kilometers - through the Jufferswaard nature reserve, an old floodplain. At the bottom of the Noordberg there used to be the gallows of the Heerlijkheid Doorwerth!
