Tour of Delden, Bornerbroek and Hengelo

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant Wapen Van Delden. Delden is located on a ridge that forms the southern part of a moraine. The town was already mentioned in 1036 and writings prove that there was already a church there in 1118. In 1333, the small fortified town, which had two city gates, was granted city rights. Lovely streams, babbling through a green sea of trees: the Hellecaterveld is a beautiful area to cycle through. But Hengelo will also surprise you. The village already existed in 1802, but at that time it consisted of only a hundred farms and small farm workers' cottages. In the nineteenth century, the number of inhabitants began to grow steadily, when the Industrial Revolution emerged. The typical Twente village of Bornerbroek is beautifully situated between the gently rolling fields and meadows, oak forests, heathlands and fens.
