Fort tour along the Linge

This cycle route takes you a long way along the Linge, which still meanders through the landscape in the old-fashioned way. From the dike you look out over the flowery grasslands and fruit orchards along the river. The villages here are just as worthwhile. The Voorstraat in Beesd enjoys a protected village view. In Rhenoy you will pass the striking white plastered village church, some parts dating from the fifteenth century. Time also seems to have stood still in Acquoy. Here you see a fifteenth-century church tower that is slightly out of plumb. W08-Asperen - Fort Asperen is an imposing monument, definitely worth getting off. Fort Vuren was built in 1844 to protect Gorinchem, as part of the New Dutch Waterline.
