Past beautiful half-timbered houses in South Limburg

The many half-timbered houses, chapels, crosses and square farms on your route certainly contribute to the charm of South Limburg. In Bommerig, Carmerig and Eperheide you will see many monumental half-timbered houses from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Along a branch of the Geul you will also pass the Volmolen. This water mill was built in 1882 for grinding corn.

Mergelkerk
It is sometimes a bit of a climb in South Limburg, but beautiful views await you on top of the hills. In Margraten you drive past the St. Margarita Church, a characteristic church built in marlstone whose tower dates from the fourteenth century. In Mheer you will pass the seventeenth-century St. Lambertus Church. Behind this stands the fourteenth-century Mheer Castle.

Church tower of Gulpen
The striking Gulpen church tower is located on one of the hills in Gulpen. St. Peter's Church was once attached to this Romanesque tower. The church tower dates from the thirteenth century and, given the thick walls of one and a half to two meters, originally also served as a defense structure. In 1732 the parsonage was built against two sides of the tower. The medieval St. Peter's Church was demolished in the 1920s. About 250 meters away, a new, neo-Romanesque St. Peter's Church was built. You see him when you cycle through Rosstraat.
