Tour of Doesburg, Laag-Keppel and Doetinchem

Your route starts at Stadshotel Doesburg & Restaurant De Kade. Northwest of Doetinchem you will find a very cool and rare forest area with river dunes and fens: the Kruisbergse forests. Very special also because of the height differences. A large part of the Kruisberg forests belongs to the medieval Hagen Estate. Take a look at the Follega Mill and the Laag-Keppel watermill! In Laag-Keppel you can also see Keppel castle. The imposing building stands on an island between two branches of the Oude IJssel. The current building was built in 1612 on the foundations of the medieval castle. In the mid-eighteenth century, the complex was further expanded at the rear. The castle has never been sold, the owners who live in it are descendants of the first builder.
