Cycling through a hilly landscape with beautiful stream valleys, steep slopes and special limestone caves, for that you have to be in South Limburg. This route takes you from hill to hill and through places with a rich history and beautiful sights.
Attraction Valkenburg
Get on your steel horse in Schimmert and set course for Valkenburg via the villages of Hulsberg and Klimmen. Along the way you cycle through a typical Limburg landscape with sunken roads, beautiful high-stem orchards, half-timbered farms and chapels. Valkenburg is a beautiful city full of nice sights such as a castle ruin, various marl caves that you can visit with a guide and a spa. The cozy center of Valkenburg full of terraces is also highly recommended. Then you cycle on to Houthem, Rothem and Ulestraten.
In South Limburg you will find many church villages, which used to grow up around a church. In these places, the Limburg culture is still very much alive and processions and shooting festivals are regularly organized, just like in the old days. Take a look in the center of these small villages and get a taste of the Limburg cultural history.
Nature reserve De Dellen
Between Houthem and Rothem you cycle through the nature reserve De Dellen. This area is about 70 hectares in size and consists for the most part of a high plateau with forests. The highest part of the plateau is used as a military training ground, but you can cycle through the rest of the nature reserve without any problems. Along the route you will find green slope forests.
