Description
This route takes you on a discovery of nice places in the Berkelland, such as Borculo. The Lords of Borculo are first mentioned in writing in the twelfth century. They were accountable to the Lord of Borculo Castle, which was surrounded by a small settlement. To better defend this castle, the Berkel river has been relocated. The castle was located on the border of Eibergen, Groenlo and Geesteren, but the area it governed was probably small. The settlement at the castle is not mentioned in writing until 1337. Borculo received city rights in 1375. Beltrum, meandering streams, beautiful lakes and a small-scale farming landscape complete the route.
