Tour through the cozy Berkelland

This route takes you on a discovery through nice places in the Berkelland, such as Borculo. The Lords of Borculo are first mentioned in writing in the twelfth century. They were accountable to the Lord of the Castle Borculo, around which was a small settlement. To better defend this castle, the river Berkel has been relocated. The castle was on the border of Eibergen, Groenlo and Geesteren, but the area it controlled was probably only small. The settlement near the castle is not mentioned in writing until 1337. Borculo received city rights in 1375. Beltrum, meandering streams, beautiful lakes and a small-scale farm landscape complete the route.
