Tour of Vleuten and Castle de Haar

From here you can take a nice walk to the fairytale-like Castle De Haar. First of all, you get to see a bit of Vleuten: now a district of Utrecht, but this was once an independent village. In Vleuten, for example, you can walk through the Maxima Park, an oasis of tranquility where a Roman army camp once stood. You will soon walk out of the built-up area. De Haar Castle is the highlight of this route, it is the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. You can also walk behind Den Ham, the largest medieval residential tower in our country. The tower measures 27 meters!
