Tour of Vleuten and De Haar Castle

From here you can take a lovely walk to the fairytale De Haar Castle. First, you will take in a bit of Vleuten: now a district of Utrecht, but this was once an independent village. In Vleuten, for example, you can walk through the Maximapark, an oasis of peace where a Roman army camp once stood. You will soon walk out of the built-up area. De Haar Castle is the highlight of this route, it is the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. You will also walk past Den Ham, the largest medieval residential tower in our country. The tower measures 27 metres!
