Along the delights of the Elbe
The beautiful summers make the Elbe valley extremely suitable for viticulture. Grapes have been grown here for centuries and delicious dry wines are made here. The'Saxon Wine Hiking Trail\\\' runs between Pirna (near the Saxon Switzerland National Park) via Dresden to Diesbar-Seusslitz north of Meissen.
Characteristic is the light walking profile (an even route along the river) and the enormous variety between nature and culture. From the Saxon Switzerland National Park along green vine-lined slopes through some of Saxony's prettiest towns, such as the wine town of Radebeul and historic Meissen. And of course Dresden, nicknamed'Florence on the Elbe\\'.
In addition to walking, the route offers some major sights: the cultural metropolis with many museums, the Karl May museum in Radebeul, the Dom and the famous porcelain factory in Meissen. The route also has culinary delights: cozy terraces, good restaurants and various wine estates that receive visitors, such as Schloss Wackerbarth and Wijngoed Hoflössnitz.
Special is the possibility to do one walking part per ship. The classic paddle steamers of the'Sächsische Dampfschiffahrt\\\' have been sailing on the Elbe in a timetable for more than 150 years. There are boarding points for these ships at various places along the walking route. Walk in one direction and sail back.
Route length: 90 km
