Cycling through a picture book around Winterswijk

This route takes you through the Winterswijk National Landscape. Here you drive through a semi-open landscape of ash trees, forests, avenues, hedgerows and stream valleys. Ideal for a day of relaxation. In Meddo you pass the John the Baptist Church from 1864. At Eetcafe Restaurant Spiekerman you can enjoy a cozy terrace, after which you set course for the former fortified town of Groenlo. Here you will see plenty of beautiful monumental buildings, such as the Old Calixtus Church. From junction 5 you drive a bit along the edge of the Korenburgerveen nature reserve, after which you pass through the former textile town of Winterswijk.'t Walien is a former manor whose history dates back to the fourteenth century. Part of the canal is still there. Further on you will pass Camping't Hilgelomeer, an ideal base for exploring the Achterhoek.
