Winterswijk, Groenlo and Meddo

Lose yourself in the beautiful nature of the Tussenderveen. This protected peat area is 120 hectares in size and is part of the Winterswijk National Landscape. In the past, a lot of peat was cut here. As a result, the soil became increasingly wetter. In 2000, sheet piles were installed to retain the area's nutrient-poor water. Because the water could no longer escape, the peat grew again. In the long term, the peat moss will have grown so much that the peat moss will grow over the water and thus take over the function of the dams. When managing the area around the Tussenderveen, efforts are being made to restore the landscape to what it looked like in 1930. To restore the swamp area to that state, a buffer zone has been created. When you arrive in Meddo you can view the Sellink Mill (hull/remains). The Sellink Mill was built in 1873 as a windmill to grind grain. The mill was named after the first miller, Jan Hendrik Sellink. The mill has always been owned and even now that only the hull remains, it is still the property of the relatives of this miller. A compound feed factory is located in what was once a round, stone belt mill.
