Description

In the Natura 2000 area Weerter- en Budelerbergen and the Ringselven you explore gently rolling heathlands. You can even visit an urn field from the late Bronze Age. The burial mounds contain the remains of a small group of people who inhabited the area between 1100 and 700 BC. During this cycle tour it is also nice to visit Cranendonck Castle, near Soerendonk. It was named after the crane that lived in the area. It was probably built in the thirteenth century and was inhabited by various noble families over the centuries. The castle was destroyed by the French in 1673. In 1938 the castle was converted into the town hall of Maarheeze. In Soerendonk you can go to De Bout for a nice cup of coffee.
