Description
The history of Ingelmunster is strongly influenced by the castle that still stands today. Located between the medieval and historic cities of Bruges and Kortrijk, this West Flemish town was nicknamed"the key of Flanders\\\" due to its location. Due to its strategic location, the French king even lived there in 1297.
Ingelmunster castle
The castle of Ingelmunster was originally a fortified castle. It was built in 1075 on the ruins of a small church from the seventh century. The current building dates from 1736 and is more of a large country house than a castle. The owners, who bought the castle in 1986, established a brewery museum in it, but it was destroyed by fire. It was then decided to give the castle back its old, noble style a bit. The castle is now surrounded by a beautiful park.
