In the area around Posterholt you can cycle through forests that are the habitat of all kinds of animals. The ideal environment to go on a discovery tour, but the lovely Limburg towns on this route are also worth it. It is time to taste the Limburg life and the beautiful nature.
From forest to forest
At the start of the route you cycle through the Annendaalsbos, a fairytale forest with coniferous and deciduous trees. Keep your eyes open here and you might see a track of a wild boar. Deer and all kinds of birds also live here. Nearby you will also find the Munningsbos, where the vegetation mainly consists of drier coniferous forests and moist oak forests. There are many woodpeckers here, such as the great spotted woodpecker, the green woodpecker and the black woodpecker. The stag beetle, a rare beetle, also lives here. In Sint Odiliënberg you cycle past Landgoed Hoosden, an area full of forests.
Freymersen Castle
Freymersen Castle in Sint Odiliënberg is definitely worth a visit. Get off your bike for a moment to admire this castle east of Sint Odiliënberg instead of just cycling past it. Of the original medieval castle, only a round brick tower with two floors above a cellar remains. These remains have been incorporated into the current country house, which was built in 1865.
