How different the landscape suddenly becomes when you drive from the picturesque village of De Steeg into the floodplains along the IJssel. On car-free roads you drive past vast grasslands. On the other side of the river you drive through Doesburg, a beautiful old town. Cycling along the dike along the IJssel you can get a breath of fresh air while enjoying the beautiful panoramic view. You drive through Brummen, just outside this village is Engelenburg Castle, which originally dates from the seventeenth century. From Dieren you cycle back into the woods. Kasteel Engelenburg

Engelenburg is an estate with a castle that was built in the 17th century. In 1828 the house was thoroughly restored and rebuilt, but the old layout of the rooms was retained. Castle Engelenburg served as a model for the construction of Paleis Het Loo in 1684. The first resident of Castle Engelenburg, Jacob I Schimmelpenninck van der Oije, traded German wines to the Baltic States.
