Around the Sneekermeer

Attention bird lovers: bring binoculars, because you can spot many species on the Frisian lakes! This is also a beautiful route for other nature lovers. Nice places, boats on the water, a nice terrace: a wonderful holiday day!

Bird watching
The route starts at Profile Rodenburg bicycle shop in Sneek. You drive through small villages to the Langweerderwielen, where you can see many pleasure yachts or skûtsjes. On the banks you drive past waving reed collars. Numerous birds can be spotted in the meadows and on the water, such as godwits and lapwings. In Goingarijp you can admire the church building from 1770. In the bell tower next to it hangs a bell from 1527.

Sneekermeer
Even more birds can be seen at the Sneekermeer. Yellow wagtail and summer teal like to build their nests here and reed birds such as the bluethroat, sedge warbler, reed warbler and bittern are also in their element. You might also see one of the deer, ermines, polecats and weasels. Terherne, a little further away, is where the children's book series De Kameleon was set.
